Economic outlook and the Zambian\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000080;\">insurance landscape<\/span><\/p>\n<p>They say no man is an island, and it is true of any<br \/>\nindustry. The wider macroeconomic environment has<br \/>\nan impact on the performance of the insurance sector,<br \/>\nand we must beware of current economic trends and<br \/>\nexpert forecasts of where we are likely to be in the near<br \/>\nfuture. The first two session will provide us with timely<br \/>\ninformation on the overall social and economic climate,<br \/>\nas well as information on legislation and industry<br \/>\nsupervision.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">2. Effective Corporate Leadership<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Leaders are tasked with taking the financial and human<br \/>\nresource of an organisation and steering them towards<br \/>\nfulfilling a goal. This takes a keen awareness of the<br \/>\nmacro-economic environment, customer interests<br \/>\nand team competences so that the organisation can<br \/>\nbe steered away from dead-ends and unnecessary<br \/>\nobstacles, to arrive at success. Leadership is about a<br \/>\npositive influence and ongoing mentorship. The daily<br \/>\ntasks carried out by an organisation, and the effort<br \/>\nexerted by personnel, can effectively serve the corporate<br \/>\nstrategy through the power of assertive leadership. The<br \/>\nleader must\u00a0remain motivated to continue to achieve<br \/>\nthese goals.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">3. Public and private medical schemes<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Medical schemes are necessary to ensure that citizens<br \/>\nget timely treatment when in need. When employees<br \/>\nreceive timely treatment, less productive time will be<br \/>\nlost due to longer recovery periods or traveling to seek<br \/>\ntreatment in distant places. These discussions will look<br \/>\nat the public and private health schemes, and how they<br \/>\ncan complement each other to better serve the general<br \/>\npublic. They will also tackle the common challenges<br \/>\nfaced by schemes and how to resolve them.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">4. Mental health<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In managing our human resource we need to be aware<br \/>\nof mental health challenges. It is important to sharpen<br \/>\nour ability to understand and evaluate behavioural<br \/>\nchallenges, for the wellbeing of those under our<br \/>\nleadership, and to get the best out of our employees.<\/p>\n<p>We must not underestimate the importance of this<br \/>\nmatter for our day to day operations. It also helps us<br \/>\nto map out a strategy to deal with the pressures that<br \/>\ncome from the corporate world, as well as those we<br \/>\nmay bring from our social circles and homes.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">5. Recovering from the economic impact of<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000080;\">COVID-19<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The buzzword nowadays is the \u201cnew normal\u201d. Every<br \/>\naspect of society has been impacted by the COVID-19<br \/>\npandemic, and indications are that it will take two<br \/>\nyears for the pandemic to be over. We must create long<br \/>\nterm strategies to not only survive but thrive during<br \/>\nthese trying times. We can learn a lot from how other<br \/>\neconomies are coping.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">6. Arbitration, litigation and liability risks in<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000080;\">the insurance sector<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Insurers are no strangers to disputes over property<br \/>\nvaluation, claims and interpretation of terms and<br \/>\nconditions. We stand to benefit from simplifying<br \/>\ndispute resolution processes, and using arbitration<br \/>\nrather that litigation to resolve any impasse.
